Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has heaped praise on midfielder Gaston Sirino who shone as the Brazilians beat AS Togo-Port 2-1 in the Caf Champions League on Friday night.

The Uruguayan was in sublime form as he scored the opener and brilliantly set up Sibusiso Vilakazi for the second as Downs raced into an early lead in their must-win game.

Sirino terrorised the Togo-Port backline throughout the encounter and Mosimane praised him for stepping up to fill the void left by Khama Billiat and Percy Tau.

‘I have been waiting for this performance from him and this was his kind of game‚’ said Mosimane after the victory that gave the Brazilians their first win of the competition and put them back into contention to qualify for the knockout stages.

‘He came out of his shell and he turned it on from the first minute. He carried the team and probably it is because the other two guys who have always carried the team [Tau and Billiat] are not around.

‘I am also happy with the goal he scored.’

Mosimane also singled out Sirino as the player who could produce that type of quality performance on a consistent basis for Downs this season.

‘I hope he continues to do this for us because he is capable of doing this. It is good that he showed good signs and it is good to give us hope‚’ the coach said.

‘Sometimes he starts to pass the ball too much and he wastes chances but I am happy with him and the rest of the players who played tonight.’
