Arsenal welcomed a visit from Basel to the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday with the Gunners cruising to a comfortable 2-0 victory.

The Gunners got off to a positive start to the game as they looked fluid and incisive from the offset. The didn’t have to wait long to open the scoring as Theo Walcott charged onto a cross hung up by Alexis Sanchez to head home after just seven minutes.

Alex Iwobi was linking the play up well for Arsenal but Basel steadily began to grow into the game around the 20 minute mark. Then, with 28 minutes gone, Walcott doubled his and Arsenal’s tally as his precise finish found the far corner.

There was a glorious chance for Celtic after 33 minutes that was well saved before Mesut Ozil wasted a chance just two minutes later. There was time for yet another chance for Sanchez before half-time but as the whilst blew for the interval the score remained unchanged.

Arsenal continued to take the attack to their opponents at the start of the second period as Iwobi fired into the side netting before Sanchez somehow missed the target with the goal gaping after 68 minutes.

Neither side was showing any genuine urgency as the game steadily drew closer to its conclusion but there was time for Sanchez to be denied yet again by another fine save. At full time the score remained 2-0 to Arsenal.
