Mamelodi Sundowns defender Wayne Arendse believes his side are firm favourites to win the Absa Premiership, Nedbank Cup and the Caf Champions League.

The Brazilians are in pole position to win the league and have recently qualified for the group stages of the Champions League, while they face Cape Town City in the quarter-finals of the Nedbank Cup.

Arendse believes that Pitso Mosimane’s side has enough quality within their squad to go on and win them all this campaign.

‘We want to win the Nedbank Cup and we want to win the league championship. No matter what competition we are in, we go into it to win it. It is the same with the Champions League… we want to win all these competitions,’ Arendse told Phakaaathi.

The 33-year-old says the gaps between their PSL and Champions League games makes it easier for the Brazilians to manage their hectic fixture schedule.

‘The Champions League will be stepping aside a bit. There is quite a gap in between the Premiership and the Champions League and I think we are managing well this year,’ he added.

‘With the Nedbank Cup as well, the coach has been rotating the team and what matters now is progressing and getting points in the league.’

Arendse believes the likes of Jeremy Brockie, Aubrey Ngoma and Gaston Sirino have to prove themselves before they start winning silverware with the club.

‘The new guys who have joined the club want to feel that and you can see they came to Sundowns to win things and that they are at the right place.

‘For them to win things, they need to show why they are here and I think it will be crucial for the new guys to show why the coach trusted them and us who have been here for longer have to prove to them we are a winning team,’ Arendse concluded.

Mamelodi Sundowns will now turn their attention to the Nedbank Cup when they take on Cape Town City in their quarter-final match at Cape Town Stadium on Sunday, with kick-off set for 15:00.
