A goal by Andre Ayew helped Ghana claimed a 1-0 victory over Uganda while Egypt and Mali played out to a goalless draw in their Afcon opener on Tuesday.

The Black Stars got off to a great start and took the lead in the 32nd minute Gyan was brought down in the area and Ayew stepped up to take the penalty kick and made no mistake from the spot-kick to make it 1-0.

However, the Black Stars held on until the final whistle of the match as they claimed all three points to go top of the Group D.

Meanwhile, Egypt and Mali were forced to play out to a goalless draw in their opening Africa Cup of Nations Group D.
