New South African U23 coach David Notoane says he is looking forward to leading his side at the Olympics in Tokyo in 2020.

The Mamelodi Sundowns Multichoice Diski Challenge (MDC) coach was recently appointed as the U23 head by the South African Football Association (Safa). He will also be assisted by SuperSport United development coach Kwanele Kopo.

The South African U23 national team are set to face Angola in their first game in Luanda on 22 March before the return leg scheduled for 26 March.

Their upcoming match against Angola is a qualifier for the U23 Afcon, which takes place in Egypt in November, with the top three nations at the competition qualifying for the Olympics in Tokyo.

Notoane says that he has been assessing players and collecting information ahead of their clash against Angola.

‘Part of this (assessment) include looking at which players are eligible and their respective strengths vis-à-vis that of the opposition,’ Notoane told the Safa official website.

‘We have also been collecting information about Angola, as you don’t want to meet this type of opposition not knowing what to expect.’

Notoane revealed that he will also be looking to include some of the Amajita players into his squad following their success in the U20 African Cup of Nations (Afcon) in Niger.

‘Of course, we would not want to miss any opportunity to infuse new players, especially from the National First Division, which I have discovered is teeming with great talent.

‘I am also checking with coach Thabo Senong on the availability of players who participated in the U20 Caf championship in Niger.’

Notoane is expect to name his squad next week before they go to camp to begin their preparations for the upcoming tournament.
