Real Madrid Manager Zinedine Zidane announced today that he has resigned from his role of manager at the club.

Real Madrid called a unscheduled press conference in which both Zidane and club president Florentino Perez were in attendance, where the Frwnchman announced his decision.

The announcement comes just five days after he led his team to a third successive Champions League trophy. Zidane took over from Rafael Benitez in January 2016 and went on to have a trophy filled period at the club which he also represented as a player.

In addition to his European success, Zidane also won the La Liga title (2016/17), the Fifa Club World Cup twice (16/17 and 17/18), the Uefa Super Cup twice (16/17 and 17/18), the Spanish Super Cup (17/18) and was named Fifa Coach of the Year (2016/17).

He leaves the club with an incredible 70% win percentage from 149 games.

Speaking at the press conference Perez said, ‘Zinedine Zidane will be speaking shortly but he communicated to me yesterday the unexpected decision that he will leave as coach.’

Zidane came forward to speak and said to the media in attendance, ‘I spoke to him to explain a little what I was thinking at the moment. First for me, the squad, the club I think it’s a bit of a weird moment but an important one that is good for everyone.

‘What I think is that this team needs to continue winning but I think it needs a change, a different voice, another methodology and that’s why I took this decision.

‘I love this club and the president who gave me the chance to play for this club and manage the club of my dreams.

‘But everything changes and that’s why I’ve taken the decision to leave.’
