Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is eager to keep hold of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil, while he has also hinted the latter is likely to keep on scoring.

The Gunners boss has revealed that talks between the club and their star playmaker Ozil are continuing as they approach an agreement over a contract extension.

The German hit the first hat-trick of his career as the Gunners destroyed Ludogorets in the Champions League on Wednesday evening, a game which highlighted the star’s importance to the side.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are also looking to tie forward Sanchez to a new deal, with the player’s current deal set to expire in 2018.

‘We are always in touch and that’s our desire,’ Wenger told Goal. ‘Mesut Ozil is 28 years old. He is in the prime of his career. We want him to contribute to the success of the club in the future.

‘They want to be happy. They are happy at the club and I want them to commit to the club because I believe they are in the right place,’ he added.

Wenger also believes Ozil will keep scoring goals this season. The midfielder, known more for his assists, has already hit six goals in all competitions this term.

‘He works quite well in finishing in training,’ he said. ‘I believe that every player gets in the habit of having a division of his game and doesn’t get out of boundaries that he has fixed himself.

‘We want him to add that to his game because there is no reason why he should not finish and score. Hopefully the fact that he scored on Wednesday night can help that desire,’ Wenger concluded.

Ozil netted eight goals and notched 20 assists from 45 appearances last season.
