We weren't ruthless – Neuer

Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has lamented the lack of ruthlessness shown by his national team as the World Champions crashed out of Euro 2016.

Die Mannschaft dominated the midfield battle against their French semi-final rivals but were unable to make the most of their chances as they undone by an Antoine Griezmann double.

Neuer was well aware of the side’s shortcomings up front.

‘The only criticism can be that we weren’t really ruthless up front. We had the opportunities to score one or two goals. We were ambitious and focused, but we just didn’t have the luck,’ he told Uefa.com.

Neuer nevertheless credit the dogged defence of the French side, admitting his teammates struggled to create clear-cut chances.

‘Obviously the opposition made it hard for us. We did well. No one really got to the ball freely, there was always a French player in the way. So there wasn’t really a one-on-one opportunity,’ he concluded.
