We were 'worthy winners' – Ronaldo

Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo has labelled his side ‘worthy winners’ following A Seleccao victory over Poland in the Euro 2016 quarter-finals.

Portugal secured qualification to the semi-finals of Euro 2016 following a dramatic penalty shootout victory over Poland after Jakub Blaszczykowski missed a crucial penalty.

The Real Madrid superstar said that Poland were tough opponents but insists that his side was the better team after creating more chances during the match.

‘It was very difficult, as befitting a quarter-final. Poland did well – they have a strong team and play good football,’ Ronaldo said.

‘They’re a very intense team, they’re physical and experienced, but I think Portugal were better and created more chances.’

Speaking ahead of the second quarter-final match between Wales and Belgium, Ronaldo insists that facing either  one of the two teams would be complicated.

‘Both are very difficult. Wales have had an excellent tournament. Belgium are also a very dangerous team that have done well with some good results. Either team would be complicated,’ he added.

‘Our objective was for Portugal to win. I want to congratulate my colleagues, our coach and technical team, we all did a fantastic job. Now on to the next opponent who we will prepare for and we will give our all.’
