Marco Verratti has parted ways with French giants Paris Saint-Germain to join Qatari outfit Al Arabi.

Al Arabi put a video of the midfielder in club colours on social media.

PSG is owned by Qatar, and the club put out a statement thanking Verratti for his 11 years there.

Verratti “played a major role in our great history”, said club president Nasser al-Khelaifi.

“Paris, the club and its supporters will always have a very special place in my heart. I will always be a Parisian,” it quoted Verratti as saying.

Verratti, who is 30, has been hurt a lot. He has also had trouble with the rules, getting 141 yellow cards and six red cards for PSG.

Last season, he was only able to play in 29 Ligue 1 games because of suspensions and injuries. However, that was the most games he had played since he played 32 in 2014-2015.

Verratti was not picked by new coach Luis Enrique for this season.

No big club in Europe made a serious offer for Verratti. His salary may have scared them away.

The transfer should bring PSG close to 50 million euros (53.7 million dollars), according to French media.

Verratti won nine French league titles, six French Cups, and the European Championship with Italy in 2021.

The Saudi Arabian League continued to get big-name players this summer, like Neymar, who joined Al Hilal in Riyadh. Verratti is the second big-name player to move to Qatar in less than a week.

Philippe Coutinho, a Brazilian forward, is on loan from Aston Villa to Al Duhail for the whole season. He joined Al Duhail on Friday.
