Former Manchester City Carlos Tevez has revealed that he rejected a move to Chelsea after receiving a call from manager Antonio Conte.

Tevez, who joined Manchester United in, signed a five-year contract with City in July 2009 for a fee that was reported to be in the region of £47-million, a then British transfer record and has been linked with a return to the Premier League in recent weeks.

The 32-year-old has already rejected an offer from former employers, West Ham, and now looks set to stay in Argentina after snubbing interest from Conte’s Chelsea.

‘After the loss [to Independiente] we had two days off,’ Tevez told Radio La Red.

‘I  was shaken, like everyone at home. I returned to training and I said “That’s it, it’s passed.”

‘But I was without any motivation. At that moment I thought about a lot of things, even to leave football. It was leave football or continue at Boca.

‘One day later Conte called me to go to Chelsea, and I told him no. I wasn’t in a good way, and I had to think about a lot of things. It was Boca or retire.’

Tevez left City to join Juventus in 2013 before a move to Boca Juniors in 2015. He has 76 national caps to his name, scoring 13 goals for Argentina.
