The second round of League Cup action continued on Wednesday with the likes of Middlesbrough, Burnley, Bournemouth, and Sunderland all in action.

Sunderland’s clash against Shrewsbury at the Stadium of Light saw the sides level in till late in the game when Manchester United loanee Adnan Januzaj fired home a wicked effort from outside the box. The goal proved enough to separate the sides, while South African star Steven Pienaar played the first hour of the encounter.

Middlesbrough took an early lead in their tie against Fulham when David Nugent headed home a Fabio cross with just eight minutes on the clock. The Cottagers began the second-half strongly and soon drew level following an unfortunate own goal by Julien de Sart. Fulham eventually emerged the winners as a late Lasse Vigen Christensen goal confirmed the comeback.

Bournemouth surged into the lead with an early goal as Max Gradel slotted home for the side, only to see Morecambe equalise through Cole Stockton just six minutes later. The Cherries regained the lead in the 54th minute as Marc Wilson fired in from range, to which they hung on to ensure they progress into the third round.

Finally, Accrington Stanely and Burnley could not be separated in their tie as the game remained goalless at full time. It was the minnows who eventually edged out their Premier League opposition in extra time as Matty Pearson grabbed a last-ditch winner.
