Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge is ‘feeling fresh’ and ready for the 2016-17 Premier League season.

The 26-year-old linked up with the Reds squad in California last week, having been on international duty with England at the Euro 2016 earlier in the summer.

The England international was left disappointed at the tournament in France which followed on from the frustration of his outstanding opener in the Europa League final being overturned by a second half Sevilla comeback, reports the Liverpool website.

Sturridge insists that it is blocked from his mind and will not linger on thoughts of what unfolded in Basel. Instead, optimism reigns.

‘It is the past – it’s gone,’ Sturridge said.

‘It’s something you reflect on at the time and then you move forward and try to put it behind you and focus on the future and there hopefully being more finals and success for the team.

‘You learn from your mistakes and that’s the most important thing.’

Sturridge’s mentality is founded upon the catalogue of hard work being done on the training pitches of Stanford University.

Reds manager Jurgen Klopp and his backroom staff are currently leading a series of sessions designed to not only make the players as fit as possible but drill them into the routines and decisions that can lead to results come the Premier League season.

Sturridge admits it’s like nothing  he has been a part of before, insisting that Klopp’s training method have become more intense.

‘It’s a lot more intense, probably the most intense I’ve ever experienced at any club,’ he added.

‘It is just a different intensity and a different kind of pre-season. It is certainly something that everyone is getting used to and will hopefully put us in good stead for the season.

‘I am feeling fresh. Pre-season is about pushing your body to the limits, so there has been a lot of sessions. You have to push yourself through the sessions as best you can.’
