Sakho facing fresh doping scrutiny

The World Anti-Doping Agency’s legal battle with Liverpool star Mamadou Sakho is set to continue should the verdict be appealed.

Sakho had been cleared of the charge of taking a banned substance by Uefa, having missed the run-in to last season while his failed drugs test was further investigated.

Now, however, Wada has revealed it may yet exercise its right to appeal Uefa’s control, ethics and disciplinary body’s decision.

‘We are awaiting the reasoned decision as it relates to this one,’ a spokesman told Telegraph Sport.

According to a report, Wada may face legal action of its own for its poor handling of the case. Allegedly the case against Sakho would have been dropped far soon than it was had Wada not insisted on it being pursued, despite the evidence making a conviction unlikely.

Sakho made 24 appearances for Liverpool last term, scoring one goal but he was suspended for the Reds’ Europa League final defeat to Sevilla.
