German World Cup winner Bastian Schweinsteiger is being strongly linked with a move away from Manchester United as Jose Mourinho trims his squad.

Schweinsteiger, who retired from national team duty on Friday, joined the Old Trafford club from Bayern Munich last season in a deal worth £7-million and despite the German still having two years on his £150,000-a-week contract, he is being put up for sale by Mourinho.

The 31-year-old, he turns 32 next week, made just 13 Premier League starts last season before suffering a serious injury against Sheffield United in January which limited him to just four matches when he returned two months later.

His age and injury record have convinced Mourinho to make room in his squad with players like Michael Carrick, Ander Herrera and Juan Mata already ahead of him.

Schweinsteiger’s exit is not expected to be the only sale of the summer with the likes of young strikers Will Keane and James Wilson being tipped to leave United on permanent deals as are Tyler Blackett and Paddy McNair. The pair both gained first team experience under Louis van Gaal but are not expected to feature in Mourinho’s plans while Adnan Januzaj, Andreas Pereira, Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson have been told to look for loan deals.

Reports in France suggest PSG will move for while Sunderland’s David Moyes is keen on a short-term deal for Januzaj.
