However, United’s new signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic marked his Premier League debut with a goal from 25 yards before Adam Smith scored a consolation goal for the Cherries.

Mourinho insists that his side were deserved the victory and all three points in their Premier League opener after taking on a tough Bournemouth side.

‘The three points, the quality of our attacking football, the quality of our control, the quality of us defensively – we were very compact. It’s three points against a very difficult opponent and I don’t think there’s any doubt we deserved to win,’ , Mourinho told the Manchester United website.

‘[Eric] Bailly and Daley [Blind] played well, the midfield players had an unbelievable complement for each other,’ he said.
