Michael McGovern helped Northern Ireland survive an onslaught to keep their Euro 2016 hopes alive on Tuesday.

Germany squandered a number of chances to claim just a 1-0 win over the minnows.

Northern Ireland goalkeeper Michael McGovern was key to keeping his side in the mix as one of the best third-placed sides, according to SASoccermag’s Opta-powered match stats.

McGovern made a telling contribution saving 8 of 9 shots on target. His best save was arguably his first one as he made himself big to deny Thomas Muller who was sent clear by Mesut Ozil.

His save to deny Mario Gomez with less than 10 minutes to play was world class as he got down low to keep the strong header out of goals.

If Northern Ireland do progress their defence in this match, and McGovern in particular, will be the reason.
