Two goals by Juan Mata and Zlatan Ibrahimovic inspired Manchester United to a 2-0 victory over West Ham United at the London Stadium in the Premier League on Monday evening.

West Ham got off to a bad start in the opening exchanges of the match and were reduced to 10 men in the 14th minute when Sofiane Feghouli was shown a straight red for a dangerous tackle on United defender Phil Jones.

The Red Devils came close to opening the scoring in the 35th minute but West Ham goalkeeper Darren Randolph produced a fine save to deny Antonio Valencia before Jesse Lingard hit the woodwork.

However, the Hammers nearly broke the deadlock just before the halftime interval when Manuel Lanzini’s curling effort was well saved by United shot-stopper to keep the scoreline goalless.

Substitute Juan Mata had an instant impact to the match when he broke the deadlock in the 63rd minute after latching onto a cross from Marcus Rashford from 12-yards out to make it 1-0.

The Red Devils came close to doubling their lead in the 74th minute when Rashford set up Paul Pogba, who saw his effort guided inches wide of the target.

However, United all but sealed the victory in the 77th minute when Ander Herrera’s shot was deflected into the path of Ibrahimovic, who volleyed the ball past Randolph to make it 2-0.

Jose Mourinho’s side have now secured their sixth consecutive victory in the Premier League as they walked away with all three points at the London Stadium.
