Australia international midfielder Aaron Mooy has joined Manchester City from sister club Melbourne City.

Melbourne City has confirmed that the 25-year-old has agreed to a three-year deal at the Etihad.

Mooy scored 11 goals and created a record 21 assists in the A-League during his first season with the Australian side and has twice been named the club’s Player of the Year since joining in 2014.

Melbourne’s managing director of football Brian Marwood told the club’s website that the midfielder was granted his move to Manchester City in order to further his professional growth.

‘Aaron is an extremely talented player who possesses the attributes we hope to foster and encourage within the City Football Group,’ Marwood said.

‘Aaron’s move to Manchester allows us to further expose him to a high standard of opportunities to ensure his professional growth.’

Melbourne’s head coach John van ‘t Schip insists that Mooy deserves the move to City after impressing during his two-year spell at the Australian c.lub

‘Aaron was a fantastic contributor. He is deserving of his new opportunity and we wish him all the best for the future,’ Van ‘t Schip said.

Fellow midfielders Luke Brattan and Anthony Caceres will head in the opposite direction on loan for the forthcoming season.
