A rampant Liverpool welcomed Hull City to Anfield on Saturday as the Reds’ intensity proved far too much for the Tigers to handle.

The Reds looked to take the game to their opponents early on as their running and high energy caused problems.

Liverpool duly took the lead after 17-minutes of action as Adam Lallana dug out a shot after turning his man in the box, his scuffed effort finding the far corner.

Hull found themselves in all sorts of trouble as Ahmed Elmohamady was red carded for a goal-denying handball. In addition, a penalty was awarded to Liverpool and James Milner duly stepped up to score the spot-kick with half an hour gone.

Barely a minute later Sadio Mane saw his deflected shot strike the crossbar as Liverpool looked to press home their advantage. Mane made no mistake in the 37th minute however as he turned and fired home from inside the box.

Hull City began the second-half brightly as they pulled one back through David Meyler. Just a minute later, however, the Reds had restored their three-goal cushion as Phillipe Coutinho struck a superb effort from range to net his side’s fourth of the day.

Liverpool were handed another penalty with 20-minutes left to play as Daniel Sturridge was adjudged to have been felled in the box. Again Milner stepped up and again he was a scorer as Liverpool hit their fifth.

The game began to trail off as both sides made a number of substitutions. In the end, there were no more chances forthcoming as the scores remained 5-1.

Elsewhere, Liverpool’s city rivals Everton were stunned 1-0 by Bournemouth as their impressive unbeaten start to the season came to an end.
