Liverpool are poised to sign Southampton star Sadio Mane for an initial fee of £34 million in a deal that would make the winger one of the most expensive players in the club’s history.

The move, which could yet rise to £36 million, would rival those of the £32.5 million the Reds paid to acquire the services of Christian Benteke last term and the £35 million they coughed up for Andy Carroll back in 2011, reports BBC Sport.

Manager Jurgen Klopp was reportedly impressed by the player last term, with the star scoring a brace in a 3-2 comeback win over the Reds back in March. The winger will add to Klopp’s attacking options at the club, with the deal for the Senegalese set to be tied-up by Tuesday.

Mane will join the likes of Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren, Rickie Lambert and Nathaniel Clyne at Liverpool, all of whom were formally with the Saints before making the move to the Reds.

The 24-year-old managed 18 goal and six assists from his 46 appearances last term.
