Portugal midfielder Joao Mario has been the subject of failed bids from Liverpool, Chelsea, Inter Milan and PSG.

The 23-year-old played a major role in Portugal’s triumph at Euro 2016 with his club unwilling to budge on his €60-million release clause after four bids from major European outfits.

Joao Mario made six starts in France including taking his place in the starting lineup in the final.

The Sporting Lisbon star is in high demand and his agent has now confirmed his father’s claims that Liverpool and Inter Milan both had offers rejected.

‘A European champion must be rewarded,’ said his agent Kia Joorabchian.

‘From now on, we either discuss a new contract or the sale to another club.

‘Sporting received four offers. Inter Milan and Liverpool, certainly, with amounts between 35 and 40 million, plus bonuses. Sporting turned down all bids.’

Record, a Portuguese newspaper, report that Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain were the other clubs turned away by Joao Mario’s club.
