Liverpool are on the verge of completing a move for Augsburg defender Ragnar Klavan.

The Reds are expected to pay £4.2-million plus add-ons for the Estonia captain, who played in both legs of last season’s Europa League tie against Liverpool and would become Jurgen Klopp’s fourth summer signing, according to SkySports.

The German manager is in need of a defender following Kolo Toure’s departure from the club and Mamadou Sakho set to miss the start of the Premier League season with an Achilles injury.

Cameroonian defender Joel Matip was brought in on a free transfer earlier this summer and started Sunday’s friendly at Wigan alongside Dejan Lovren.

However, the 24-year-old was replaced towards the end of the match after suffering an ankle injury.

The Reds also signed Senegalese forward Sadio Mane and German goalkeeper Loris Karius to their squad ahead of the 2016-17 season.
