Stoke City have agreed to sign Liverpool midfielder Joe Allen for a fee of £13-million.

The 26-year-old joined the club from Swansea City in 2012 but was unable to cement a regular spot in Jurgen Klopp’s first team after the German took over from Brendan Rodgers in October.

The Welsh midfielder made the majority of his appearances in the Premier League as a substitute, making only eight starts.

The former Swansea midfielder is out of contract at the end of the 2016-17 season and Klopp said last week he was looking into Allen’s position at the club, where there is plenty of competition for a midfield place, according to SkySports.

The former Borussia Dortmund manager would not comment on the deal in place with Stoke over the transfer of the midfielder.

‘We cannot comment because we couldn’t do anything else all day so we shouldn’t start with this,’ Klopp said.

‘I feel good (about Joe). I like the guys and I really think he is a wonderful football player. I knew this before the European Championships, I saw it during the Euros and I know it now.

‘I have said all I can say about this. It is all about respecting contracts, negotiating or not – whatever – and making a transfer or not.’

During the 2015-16 season, the Wales international feature a total of 32 times for the Reds, netting three goals while creating three assists in all competitions.
