Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere have revealed how he has helped defender Rob Holding settle in at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners completed the signing of the 20-year-old defender from English League one side Bolton Wanderers for a reported fee of £2-million, making 30 appearances during his first senior campaign in 2015-16 and won the club’s player of the season award.

Wilshere believes Holding has adjusted to his new club and new surroundings.

‘He has come from somewhere I know quite well. I spent six months at Bolton and he has come from there, so we have got quite a lot in common,’ Wilshere told the Arsenal website.

‘That sums him up really [that he had never been to London]. He is very northern! He comes from the same area as Danny Welbeck so him and Danny have become quite close as well.’

The England international continued to say that Holding is a player for the future and will improve his game at Arsenal after making the move to London.

‘He’s only 20 years old and he’s come down from Bolton on his own, so he has to get used to living in London. That’s why I have been talking to him, to help him settle.

‘We’ve had boys like that come here before in Calum and Alex, though. They’ve all settled in well and have improved as players as well as people. I’m sure he is one for the future and can improve his game this year.’

Over the course of his Bolton career, Holding has featured 57 times for the club in all competitions, netting four goals and assisted one for the League one side.
