Manchester City will begin their pre-season preparations against Bundesliga champions, Bayern Munich, at the Allianz Arena in July.

Pep Guardiola’s first game in charge of his new Premier League outfit will see him take on former club Bayern Munich on July 20.

Bayern will have new manager Carlo Ancelotti at the helm and the friendly is seen as ideal preparation for both clubs as they look to challenge for silverware domestically and in Europe, reports the Manchester City website.

This season the Bundesliga side completed a domestic double and will add to City’s competitive pre-season schedule, which sees them taking on the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal.

Although, during his three year spell at the German club Guardiola guided Bayern to seven titles, including three consecutive Bundesliga titles, two DFB-Pokal titles, Uefa Super Cup title and the Fifa Club World Cup title.

The Blues Chief Executive Ferrran Soriano insisted that Guardiola’s first match in charge against his former club with bring excitement to City’s pre-season.

‘Playing Bayern Munich is always a great occasion and this match has the added excitement of our new head coach Pep Guardiola returning to play with Manchester City against his former club,’ Soriano said.

‘Bayern will provide fitting opposition as our team continues its pre-season preparations and we will be able to connect with our fans in Germany,’ he added.

In the last six meetings between the two side’s Bayern have secure four wins, while City have only managed to defeat the German’s twice.
