Former Manchester City boss Sven-Goran Erikssen is confident that Pep Guardiola will be a success in the Premier League.

City were unconvincing in pre-season as they fell to defeats against Bayern Munich and Arsenal, while edging out Borussia Dortmund on penalties. Eriksson, however, is not perturbed.

‘Guardiola will do very well for City in the Premier League, there is no doubt about that,’ Eriksson told Omnisport.

‘He won everything in Spain and he won almost everything in Germany with Bayern Munich. I’m sure he is going to do a great job there [at City].’

City have invested heavily in new players as they seek to reassert themselves in the Premier League as well as continue to make progress in the Champions League.

The likes of John Stones, Leroy Sane, Ilkay Gundogan, Gabriel Jesus and Nolito, have all been added to City’s ranks.

‘It’s easy to understand the owners. They invest a lot of money in players and coaches. They want to see results. It’s the same all over the world,’ Erikssen added.

‘If you’re Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern, Manchester United or City now, they want to see results because they are big clubs and the amount of players they have is incredible,’ he concluded.

Guardiola enjoyed trophy-laden spells in his time at Barcelona and Bayern Munich and will take charge of his first competitive game for the Citizens when they host Sunderland in their opening game of the Premier League season.

The game will be played at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

Kick-off is at 17:30.
