Tottenham Hotspur welcomed Manchester City to White Hart Lane on Sunday as Dele Alli netted a crucial goal in a 2-0 victory for the home side.

Spurs got off to a fast start in the match and City failed to cope with the dynamism and movement of their midfield, which was typified by Alli’s movement and incisiveness.

As the game wore on and City dictated possession, Spurs’ defensive resoluteness and hassling of City players on the ball became increasingly important, a role Alli again performed with distinction.

According to SASoccermag’s Opta-powered matchcentre stats, the England star made 36 touches of the ball in his 86 minutes on the pitch, during which time he made 10 of his 14 attempted passes. Alli also created one chance for a teammate as he generally looked to transition Spurs from defence into lightening quick attacks.

The youngster’s biggest contribution came as his run from deep was not picked up by the City midfield, leaving the star free to fire into the back of the net from close range in his own chance of the game.

Alli also won a total of six duels in the contest while he chipped in with one defensive clearance.
