Manchester City attacking duo Kevin De Bruyne and Sergio Aguero have been nominated for the Uefa Team of the Year 2016 shortlist.

The 40-strong list of players will be narrowed down to just 11 players by a public vote, which opened at 17:00 on Monday.

The Citizens have never had a player feature in the Uefa Team of the Year in its 15-year existence, despite winning the Premier League twice in the last four years, according to the Manchester City website.

The voting poll for the Uefa Team of the Years closes on January 3 and the final line-up will be announced on January 5.
