City confirm Gundogan capture

Manchester City have announced the signing of midfielder Ilkay Gundogan from Borussia Dortmund in a deal worth £21-million.

The German international has signed a on a four-year contract with the Manchester club.

The 25-year-old midfielder made 157 appearances during his five-year spell at Dortmund and has won 16 caps for Germany, scoring four goals.

A creative, technically proficient midfielder, Gundogan can operate anywhere in the middle of the park and will give manager Pep Guardiola plenty of options, reports the Manchester City website.

The German international revealed that when he heard the news of City’s interest, he made up his mind as to where he wanted to play for the 2016-17 season.

‘I’m thrilled to have signed for Manchester City,’ Gundogan said.

‘When I learned of City’s interest my heart was set on coming here and things have moved very quickly.’

Gundogan expressed his gratitude toward Dortmund for helping him improve his performance and excelling in his career.

‘I have loved my time with Borussia Dortmund and I would like to thank the club and the supporters for the five very happy years I spent there,’ the German added.

‘They gave me a platform to play on and I became a better player because of the belief, patience and trust they showed in me.’

The former FC Nuremberg midfielder hopes to achieve success during his time at City and is looking for to the prospect of working with a manager of Pep Guardiola’s calibre.

‘Now I have a new challenge and that is to achieve great things with City. The opportunity to work with a coach like Pep Guardiola is something I am really looking forward to and I am flattered to be the first signing the Club has made this summer,’ he said.

‘I can promise the City fans I will give everything to help us win titles both in England and the Champions League. These are exciting times.

‘I have my best years ahead of me and I think we can achieve great things together. I can’t wait to begin this new chapter in my career.’

This season Gundongan has helped Dortmund to a second place finish in the Bundesliga scoring three goals and creating seven assists in 40 appearances in all competitions.

Gundogan currently is recovering from the knee injury which will ruled him out of the Euro 2016.
