Manchester City have confirmed the signing of talented young centre back John Stones from Everton in a colossal £47.5-million deal. 

The 22-year-old has signed a six-year contract with the club and will adorn the number 24 shirt. The player, who was persistently pursued by City’s new manager Pep Guardiola, joins the likes of Ilkay Gundogan, Nolito, Aleksandar Zinchenko, Aaron Mooy, Leroy Sane, Gabriel Jesus, Marlos Moreno as a new signing at the club.

‘I’m absolutely delighted to sign for City and now the deal’s done I’m looking forward to the next stage in my career,’ Stones told Manchester City’s website.

‘I’ve obviously seen what’s going on here at the Etihad, it’s an ambitious Club with a great manager so I can’t wait to get stuck in and help achieve the goals.’

City are eager to reassert themselves in the Premier League having failed to mount a successful challenge in the past two seasons. The club

The club are also determined to establish themselves in Europe having fallen in the penultimate hurdle of the Champions League last season.

Stones, who established himself as one of the world’s brightest young centre backs in his three-year spell at Everton, has also thanked his former club and paid tribute to their fans.

‘I know it will be tough getting a place in this team but I’m determined to become the best player I can be and help us to success.

‘I had a wonderful time with Everton and wish them and their fans all the best but now I’ll give my all for City,’ he concluded.

Stones cemented his position as a starter for the Toffees last season as he made 41 appearances in all competitions, while he was also earned a call into the England setup.
