Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech rues his side’s missed opportunity to go top of the Premier League table following their 2-1 defeat against Everton on Tuesday.

The Gunners broke the deadlock in the 27th minute from an Alexis Sanchez free-kick before Seamus Coleman and Ashley Williams sealed the victory for the home side at Goodison Park.

The 34-year-old shot-stopper admits that he was disappointed with the result but has urged his team-mates to bounce back when they face Pep Guardiola’s side on Sunday.

‘Well, I thought that when we went 1-0 up, we had the game under control,’ Cech told the Arsenal website.

Then unfortunately for us, they managed to equalise right before half-time and that obviously gave them a big boost of confidence because towards the end of the first half it looked like we had complete control of the game and it changed.

‘Second half they came out and they were confident, they played better, they had some counter-attacks and we couldn’t find the openings, we couldn’t find the big chances to score the second.’

He added: ‘At the end, we lose from a corner and it can always happen but it’s disappointing – once you have everybody in the box, you should do better.’

Arsenal will be hoping to bounce back when they take on Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday.

The match at the Etihad Stadium kicks off at 18:00.
