Leading British bookmakers William Hill have cut the odds of Russia losing hosting duties for the 2018 World Cup following their suspended Uefa punishment in the aftermath of fan violence at Euro 2016.

On Tuesday, Russia were handed them a €150 000 fine. Any further trouble, meanwhile, will see the side officially disqualified from the competition.

Originally 9/1, the odds of the 2018 World Cup taking place elsewhere (or not at all) are now just 6/1.

‘A small minority of fans are harming Russia’s continued participation in this tournament and could potentially put the country’s hosting of the World Cup in two year’s time in jeopardy,’ said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly.

Will Russia host the 2018 World Cup:

1/12 – Yes

6/1 – No
