Arsenal have completed the signing of German World Cup-winning defender Shkodran Mustafi from La Liga side Valencia.

Mustafi follows Lucas Perez, a £17.1-million capture from Deportivo La Coruna, in moving to the Emirates Stadium and takes the Gunners’ number of new summer arrivals to five, reports the Arsenal website.

The 24-year-old defender has been with the Spanish club for two seasons, making 64 league appearances.

He began his senior career by coming through the ranks at Everton’s academy before spending two years with Sampdoria in Serie A.

Shkodran, who is currently on international duty with Germany, becomes the Gunners sixth signing after Lucas Perez, Granit Xhaka, Rob Holding, Takuma Asano and Kelechi Nwakali, who all recently joined the club.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger went on to praise the defender for his focus and experienced, declaring he can help the gunners prepare well for the future.

‘He is at the right age. He has good experience. He is a very focused player who can play with the ball as well. We have taken a great player but have prepared well for the future,’ Wenger said.

Over the course of his career, Mustafi has scored 12 goals and assisted six from 210 appearances in all competitions playing for the likes of Sampdoria, Everton, and Valencia.
