Brazilian wing-back Dani Alves has explained his decision to quit long-time club Barcelona, with the 33-year-old reportedly set to seal a move to Juventus.

The star has all but finalised his switch to the Italian champions following eight trophy-laden years at the Camp Nou, with the Brazilian’s haul of 30 honours having surpassed even the total achieved by Brazilian great Pele.

Now, Alves is seeking a new challenge, claiming he had become too comfortable with the La Liga champions.

‘What is certain is that I will not stay at Barcelona,’ Alves said, as quoted by Gazzetta dello Sport.

‘In life, we should explore options outside our comfort zone. Barcelona is an amazing club, but things were becoming too easy.’

The Brazilian is keen to try his hand at another top European side.

‘I always have the desire for a new challenge. I hope that I can bring success like I did at Barcelona to another European club.’

Alves joined the Blaugrana from Sevilla in 2008, becoming then manager Pep Guardiola’s first signing for the first team.

Alves made 42 appearances for Barca across all competitions this term, assisting seven times.
