A late goal by Zlatan Ibrahimovic earned Manchester United a point against Liverpool following their 1-1 draw at Old Trafford on Sunday evening.

The match got off to a slow start and the Red Devils should have taken the lead in the 19th minute when Paul Pogba was played through on goal but he guided his effort wide of goal.

However, Liverpool broke the deadlock when they were then awarded a penalty in the 26th minute when Paul Pogba handled the ball in the box and James Milner stepped up to take the penalty and made no mistake from the spot-kick.

The Red Devils had another opportunity at goal in the 40th minute when Ander Herrera played Henrikh Mkhitaryan through on goal but the Armenian midfielder was denied by Liverpool goalkeeper Simone Mignolet.

Jurgen Klopp’s side came close to doubling their lead on the hour mark but United shot-stopper David De Gea produced a fine save to deny Roberto Firmino from close range.

However, United eventually found an equalising goal in the 83rd minute when Ibrahimovic headed the ball into the back of the net from close range.

Both sides pressed forward for a late winner in the closing stages but neither side could find the all-important goal as the match ended 1-1 at Old Trafford.
