The last time Danie van Tonder won was two years ago at Euphoria Golf Estate and he returns to the Limpopo course this week hunting the same result.

In the last fortnight Van Tonder came second at the Sun Fish River Challenge and third at the Sun Boardwalk Challenge. He’s recorded six top-five results since August and is clearly playing well.

‘I’ve found my form again,’ he said at the start of October. ‘I’m quite positive about everything and I’m enjoying the golf. I am quite happy.’

At Euphoria in 2014 he won in gritty fashion, carding a final-round 70 to edge out Tyrone Ferreira by one stroke.

Van Tonder has grown in many ways since then, not in victories, but certainly in experience.

He played in the 2014 Nedbank Golf Challenge and has recorded a string of top-three finishes since, including a runner-up result at the Zambia Open last year.

Van Tonder has always done things his own way. His swing is totally unique, he practices relentlessly, and he is one of the best prospects on tour.

He’ll tee up alongside recent winner Christiaan Bezuidenhout, who made two birdies and an eagle in the final four holes at Fish River Sun Country Club last week to win his first tournament.

Recent champions Ruan de Smidt and Justin Harding will also take a crack at the title, along with 2014 runner-up Ferreira, who’s in good form at the moment.

The 54-hole tournament begins on Thursday.
