Big-hitting Bryson DeChambeau managed to win his maiden Major crown when he stormed to an impressive six-shot victory at the US Open on Sunday.

DeChambeau, who has often been criticised for his unconventional approach to the game recently, mastered the difficult conditions at Winged Foot Golf Club to finish the week as the only player under par.His winning score of six under par was more than enough to create a significant gap between himself and overnight leader Matthew Wolff, who suffered a disappointing five-over 75 for his final round to finish the event on even par and in second place.

DeChambeau started Sunday’s final round at three under par and opened the front nine with a birdie, bogey and brilliant eagle on the par-five 9th hole. From there it was all about keeping his composure as Wolff and the rest of the field began to fade out of contention in New York.DeChambeau stuck to his guns and rolled in another birdie on the 11th hole before he saw the round out with no bogeys on the back nine.

On a day where players were doomed to struggle and fall victim to the course, DeChambeau was the only one to conclude the day under par as he settled for 67.The comprehensive victory was valid proof that his way of playing and strict measures in approach aren’t as ridiculous as they might seem to many.South Africa’s Louis Oosthuizen’s quest to make it out on top on Sunday didn’t quite go according to plan but he still secured third place at the event after a final-round 73.Harris English completed his week a further stroke back on three over par and occupied fourth spot on the leaderboard.
