The Sunshine Tour will make its long-awaited return on Wednesday when the Betway Championship gets under way at the Killarney Country Club.

The event will kickstart the ‘Gauteng Swing’ of the newly launched Rise-Up Series as the Tour starts its new season with five 54-hole tournaments.

With lots to play for and a purse of R600,000, golfers will tee of as early as 7am on Wednesday in what will be the first professional golf event since the Govid-19 pandemic intervened.

Local stars such as George Coetzee, Jaco Ahlers, Darren Fichardt and Daniel van Tonder, just to name a few, will all be in action, while the first chance to gather points on the Money List will have players eager to make a good start.

‘It has been a long wait for our member professionals and our sponsors, and we thank them for their patience and understanding,’ said Sunshine Tour commissioner Selwyn Nathan when the series was announced.

‘Ever since we suspended our activities in March this year, we remained resolute that we would not resume playing until we had the necessary confirmation from government and had consulted thoroughly with our sponsors. That is why we are only now announcing this resumption of our schedule as we are confident that under the current government lockdown alert level 3 and with our planning in place, we can resume tournament activity in a safe, responsible and controllable manner.’

As expected, no spectators will be allowed to attend these events with limited access granted to players, caddies and staff members, who have all been following strict guidelines in preparation of Wednesday’s start and will be tested upon arrival at each course.

Compleat Golfer will provide live updates from Killarney Country Club on its social media channels from Wednesday and cover the series every step of the way.

Highlights will also be shown on SuperSport each day.
