Sweden’s Alex Noren coasted to a two-stroke victory at the British Masters with a Sunday round of 69 at The Grove to finish the tournament at 18 under par.

The world number 18 triumphed at the Scottish Open and European Masters earlier this year, and capped off his incredible season with a third trophy on Sunday.

He shot 67 on Thursday, then took control of the tournament with rounds of 65 on both Friday and Saturday. He kept the challenge of runner up Bernd Wiesberger at bay with a Sunday 69.

Local favourite Lee Westwood shrugged off Ryder Cup disappointment to finish sole third with two rounds of 67 at the weekend, while five players shared fourth place.

South African’s Richard Sterne tied for ninth place after shooting 71 on Sunday, ending a spell of seven consecutive rounds breaking 70 in tournament play.

His runner-up finish at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, along with Sunday’s tie for ninth place at The Grove, have marked his return to European Tour contention.

He currently ranks 32nd in the Race to Dubai and will play out the Finals Series in a vein of good form.
