A TaylorMade M2 driver and three-wood were spotted in the bag of Rory McIlroy during the practice round on Wednesday at Sheshan International Golf Club, confirming that he’s switched equipment brands.

Last month Nike announced that it stop producing golf equipment and McIlroy, who was the top-ranked brand ambassador, had to find alternatives.

The recent FedEx Cup champion was rumoured to be testing out the TaylorMade gear and was spotted using M2s on the range yesterday, but the conclusive proof was in his bag on Wednesday.

TaylorMade already has Dustin Johnson (the longest PGA Tour driver for 2015-16) in their stable and the addition of McIlroy is a huge punt for the manufacturer.

This week’s $9,25-million WGC-HSBC Champions tournament is the perfect spot for the Ulsterman to trial his new kit.

The field includes nine of the world’s top 11 players, all competing on a very long track with huge crowds. All eyes will be on McIlroy when he brings his new M2 driver to the party.
