Garrick Higgo has moved up to a career-high 65th position in the Official World Golf Rankings after his victory at this past weekend’s Gran Canaria Lopesan Open in Spain.

The 21-year-old from Stellenbosch bagged his second win on the European Tour with an impressive two-stroke triumph.

Higgo signed off with a winning score of 25 under par for the event –securing €230,500 (R3,983,484.87) for his excellent effort.

The South African broke into the world top 100 for the first time after last year’s Aphrodite Hills Cyprus Open and surged as high as 90th after the season-ending DP World Tour Championship in Dubai in December.

Higgo, though, dropped out of the top 100 again in recent weeks but his victory in Spain propelled him up the OWGR leaderboard in spectacular fashion.

He also starts the week as the third-highest ranked South African golfer in the world and is currently one of nine local players in the top 100.

Brandon Stone climbed 22 places from 98th in the world to 76th for the start of the new week, following his brilliant victory at the Limpopo Championship.

Daniel van Tonder, who was one of three players who lost in playoff to Stone this past Sunday, also moved up eight further places in the OWGR. He occupies 72nd spot for this week – also his highest career placing yet.
