Amaglug-glug coach Owen da Gama says his charges are in ‘high spirits’ ahead of their international friendly against Japan in Matsumoto.

The 54-year-old coaches charges will hold one official training session ahead of the international friendly against the Japanese Olympic Team which is set to give them a stern test having just won the Cosafa Cup, reports Safa.net.

The South African side has been drawn alongside host Brazil, Iran and Denmark for the upcoming Rio Olympics in August.

The Bafana Bafana assistant coach insists that his side is relishing the chance to take on Japan in a friendly match.

‘Despite the long journey in which we have travelled almost 24 hours non-stop, the boys are in high spirits and we are all looking forward to this friendly match,’ said Da Gama.

‘The boys have played lots of football of late but they are all excited about meeting Japan in a friendly match. Having a demanding schedule is part of being a professional player,’ added Da Gama.

South Africa U23 will now take on Japan at the General Sports Stadium on Wednesday.

Kick-off has been set for 14:00.
