Bafana Bafana have released striker Tokelo Rantie from national duty after he failed to report for camp on time.

Rantie, who plays for Turkish club Gençlerbirliği, was due to report for duty on October 2 but ‘failed to do so although he had already arrived in South Africa from overseas’.

‘We thought in the spirit of encouraging team spirit and discipline, we must release Rantie from camp,’ coach Shakes Mashaba told safa.net.

The 26-year-old former Bournemouth forward also did not report for camp the following day on Monday, 3 October when the rest of the team arrived for official training.

According to Safa, ‘Rantie’s matter will now be handled by the Association for further disciplinary measures’.

South Africa open their 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign on Saturday when they face Burkina Faso.

The match kicks off at 20:00.
