Reyaad Pieterse is looking forward to his Bafana Bafana debut, which he set to make at the upcoming Cosafa Cup.

The new SuperSport United signing joins a squad of predominantly U-23 players. The squad will report to a training camp on Thursday evening where they begin preparations for their opening match next weekend.

Pieterse, who recently quit Kaizer Chiefs, is excited of playing for the national side under Shakes Mashaba.

‘I’m excited and very honoured to be representing my country in the Cosafa Cup, and I feel like it’s a step closer to my dream of making it to the senior national team. I’m ready to go there and give my best to help the team’s cause,’ Pieterse told KickOff.

‘It’s a good start for me because we all have to start somewhere, I mean I’ll be getting valuable international experience as well as a feel for international football. It’s also an opportunity to make a name for myself because the Bafana coach will also be watching.’

Pieterse is the oldest player in the squad for the match at age 24.

‘It will be good for me to be with the younger players as I might have a chance to share my experience and give them advice, while I also have a chance to go and do my best for the benefit of the team.

‘It’s been a long-time dream of mine to get into the national teams and pick up some international caps. It’s very important because I also want to further my career overseas, so it’s a good platform for me to build on from.’

Pieterse made 18 appearances in all competitions this term, conceding just 16 goals.
