Bafana Bafana coach Shakes Mashaba believes his side failed to take their chances against Ghana at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Tuesday, writes DYLAN APPOLIS.

The Black Stars took the lead in the match when Harrison Afful was brought down in the box by debutant Isaac Nhlapo after the right back intercepted Oupa Manyisa’s pass in the 36th minute.

Ghanaian midfielder Mubarak Wakaso then stepped up and converted the penalty to hand the visitors the lead. Mashaba’s side managed to level matters in the 51st minute when Ayanda Patosi’s curling effort beat Ghanian goalkeeper Adam Kwarasey from the edge of the box

The 66-year-old national team coach says it was difficult for his side to retain possession and he believes that it was a problem Bafana Bafana should’ve dealt with earlier in the match.

‘Whenever we lose the ball, those guys come back and attack us, it’s a game, it does happen,’ Mashaba said after the match.

‘There are a lot of things we good at and when we lose the ball, we find ourselves wanting but its was difficult to retain possession.

‘I think it’s something we would’ve been early to deal with but unfortunately, the players did not make much of their chances.’

Mashaba believes his side should’ve won the match but a lack of depth in front of goal let them down and they were forced to share the spoils on Tuesday.

‘It was a good game, the Ghanian’s came here prepared to win the game. They showed [us] how to play the game but unfortunately, we also needed to win.

‘We should’ve won the game but our strikers lacked the composure to finish right but I say good game, it was a game worth playing against them.’

Bafana Bafana will next take on Senegal in their second World Cup 2018 qualifying match on November 7.
