Bafana Bafana coach Stuart Baxter has questioned the reason behind French club Strasbourg withdrawing Lebo Mothiba ahead of the side’s 2019 Afcon qualifier with Libya due to an injury.

Mothiba was set to join up with the national side as they prepare for their crunch qualifier against Libya, until his club side sent information to Baxter claiming that the forward had torn a hamstring and will be out of action for 10 to 15 days.

The Bafana forward made the move to Strasbourg from Lille just 15 days ago, and according to Baxter, Mothiba’s new club have failed to provide the Bafana camp with the relevant supporting medical documents, which he considers ‘amateurish’.

The former Kaizer Chiefs coach revealed at a press conference at the Hilton hotel in Durban on Monday that he could report the Ligue 1 side to Fifa over the matter.

‘Last night [Sunday] later than 11:30pm, the doctor [Aadil Bodhania] knocks on my door and says actually we got an email from them [Strasbourg] saying that he’s going for the scan. The doctor, now when we landed in Durban [Monday], gets another email saying that he has a grade two hamstring tear, which is not going to be healed within 10 to 15 days.

‘So I say to the doctor given the way this has gone down, I want a picture. I want a scan, an actual scan that you can look at and you can say to me “Coach, this is not so bad, bring him here, we’ll assess him”, or “coach forget about this one, you need to call someone up”.

‘Until we have that scan, I think the way this has gone down has been totally amateurish and therefore I’m going to make a decision whether I recommend taking them to Fifa to report them for disrupting our camp. Or we’ll look at the scan and say it’s not worth it and let’s just get on with our life and bring someone else in,’ concluded the Bafana coach.
