Safa has confirmed that Bafana Bafana will take on Zambia in a friendly fixture during the upcoming Fifa break.

The match will be the sides’ first outing since returning from the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, where they were knocked out in the quarter-finals by Nigeria.

Since the tournament the national side have seen their coach, Stuart Baxter, resign and his former assistant coach, Molefi Ntseki, handed the job on a caretaker basis. Meanwhile, the association’s technical committee continue its search for a permanent replacement.

Chipolopolo, who were crowned continental champions in 2012 but missed out in 2019, will travel to South Africa. The fixture is set to take place at the Nkoloma Stadium on 7 September, with kick-off scheduled for 3pm.

A squad will be announced at a later date, with no news of when a permanent coach will be selected.

‘The match against Zambia will be part of the preparations of the Afcon qualifiers which commences in November with the visit to the Black Stars of Ghana before hosting Sudan later in the same month.

‘South Africa are in Group C together with Ghana, Sudan and the winner of the preliminary-round encounter between Mauritius and Sao Tome e Principe,’ Safa states on its website.
