Bafana Bafana midfielder Teboho Mokoena insists the pressure will be firmly on hosts Mexico when the two nations meet in their FIFA World Cup opener, with South Africa embracing their underdog status.

South Africa will take on El Tri when they meet at the iconic Estadio Azteca, Mexico City.

Hugo Broos’ men are preparing for their first appearances at the World Cup for the first time in 16 years.

Mokoena says the squad is focused on its own preparations and is confident in the work done ahead of the tournament as they eagerly await the showdown at the Estadio Azteca.

“As I said, even the probability is saying seven percent chances of going to the next round or even winning the opening game,” said Mokoena.

“So, we don’t have pressure. The pressure is on Mexico as the host,” Mokoena told the media.

“For us as a team, we know what is expected of us, and we know how much we prepared for this game and for this tournament.

“Of course, we’re just looking forward to the game against Mexico.”

Orlando Pirates have officially bid farewell to midfielder maestro Sipho ‘Master Chefs’ Mbule.

The 28-year-old joined the club during the 2025-26 season after parting ways with Sekhukhune United.

Mbule went on to feature 23 times for the Buccaneers while scoring one goal in the process.

The midfielder maestro went on to help Pirates secure their first Betway Premiership title in 14 years while also claiming the MTN8 and the Carling Knockout Cup trophy.

“Orlando Pirates Football Club bids farewell to Sipho Mbule, following the conclusion of his time with the Club. While the stay with the Buccaneers has only lasted only one season, what a season it was,” Piirates said in a statement.

“Affectionately known as “Master Chef”, the 2025/26 season truly dished out one hell of a dish.

“Starting with the MTN8 Cup at the beginning of the season, courtesy of a 3-1 victory over Stellenbosch FC. Then came the Carling Black Label Cup triumph against Marumo Gallants towards the end of 2025.

“The turn of 2026 saw a return to the South African national team and participation at the African Cup of Nations. The crowning achievement was contributing to Orlando Pirates securing the Betway Premiership title after a 14-year wait.

“As his journey with Orlando Pirates comes to an end, the Club would like to place on record its gratitude to Sipho Mbule for his contribution during the season.

“Thank you, Master Chef.”

Orlando Pirates attacking midfielder Andre De Jong has heaped praise on teammate Oswin Appollis for playing an instrumental role in the team’s success.

Appollis has enjoyed an impressive debut campaign with the Buccaneers, having scored 12 goals and registered nine assists in 43 appearances in all competitions.

He also played a crucial role in helping the Sea Robbers secure the treble as well as their first league title in 14 years.

De Jong believes Appollis’ technical quality and knack for producing match-winning contributions have been instrumental to the team’s success, with the Bafana Bafana international often taking responsibility and turning games in Pirates’ favour when it matters most.

“I think some of the goals he scored were from outside the box this season, I think the big thing about him is his backlift is minimal,” said De Jong on Extra Time on SuperSport as per IDiski Times.

“I think he can obviously strike a ball from basically a standing start as well.

“But yeah, his contribution to the team has been incredible. I think also in some big moments where he’s almost taken the team upon himself, taken it a bit between his teeth and turned the games for us.”

Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has reaffirmed his commitment to the Buccaneers after sharing a heartfelt message to the club.

Ouaddou completed a historic domestic treble in his debut season with the Soweto giants after claiming the Betway Premiership title, MTN8, and the Carling Knockout Cup.

He has been in charge of 44 games, winning 32 matches, drawing seven and only conceding five defeats in the process.

The Moroccan mentor has since penned a heartfelt message to the coaches, players and fans of the club.

“To my incredible and dedicated Staff, I am writing these few words from the bottom of my heart to send you my most sincere congratulations and my deepest thanks,” said Ouaddou on his Instagram account.

“Thank you for your hard work, your invaluable expertise, your constant dedication, your sacrifices, and above all, for your boundless love for football and for our club, the Orlando Pirates.

“As evidenced by the wonderful memory of our victorious crew in those photos, we have accomplished a monumental amount of work this season.

“Together, we have put an end to a 14-year drought. Like true pirates, we have sailed every sea and ocean, braving the storms, to finally bring the treasure home!

“This season, we managed to make our wonderful (and oh so demanding) fans deeply happy. I wholeheartedly hope that we continue to bring this immense joy into their daily lives next season.

“But for now, I ask you to rest well and enjoy your families to the fullest. I expressly need it myself!

“Disconnect and recharge your batteries, because I will need you again to carry out a special mission when we return: to go and recover another massive Treasure at the CAF, without letting anyone steal the one already sitting in our cave!

“Have a great rest, Everyone, and come back in shape for a great new adventure. I embrace you, l love you all.”

Langeveldt took the field for the last time when he came on in the 82nd minute in their 2-0 win over Orbit College at Danie Craven Stadium on 17 May.

The 39-year-old has kept 39 clean sheets in 83 appearances across all competitions.

He has played for the likes of NMMU FC, Western Province United, Kjøbenhavns Boldklub, Santos FC, Milano United, Golden Arrows and Stellenbosch FC.

“It was always my dream to play professionally, but at the time you had to go to Cape Town, to Santos, Hellenic, or Ajax Cape Town, or, and I was fortunate to get an opportunity at the School of Excellence in PE,” Langeveldt told the Stellenbosch website.

“I was so excited when I received the call,” he says. “I think the whole town was excited to finally have a professional team in Stellenbosch, and the opportunity for me to come back and play for the community was incredibly special.

“Playing football was always my dream, but to get the chance to do it in my hometown is something that I will always be grateful for.

“There were too many emotions and too many feelings to properly describe it, but it was a special, special moment for me,” he shares on the experience. “To have my sendoff in front of family and friends in Stellenbosch was unforgettable.

“I knew it was coming because coach Gavin [Hunt] came to me earlier in the week and said he was going to give me a sendoff, but I told him the three points were more important. If we were leading, then bring me on, but otherwise no, and thankfully, we were at the time.

“It’s funny because coach P [Stellenbosch FC goalkeeper coach, Pernell McKop] called me on the bench and told me to warm up. I said, ‘Just put me on, it’s fine’. Then the first corner came in, and I went up to catch it, but my legs didn’t‎ want to work. All I remember thinking was that I should have warmed up!

“But no, it was unforgettable, and I just feel really blessed to have had the opportunities I’ve had. It was an incredible full circle moment to have started my career as a junior at Idas Valley Football Club and then to end it at Stellenbosch FC. It’s a day I will never forget,” he concluded.
