Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Themba Zwane believes he is starting to form a good understanding with teammate Lebohang Maboe, which could benefit both Downs and Bafana Bafana.
Maboe signed for the Brazilians at the beginning of the season and the 21-year-old has not taken long to settle in at Chloorkop.
Many were doubting whether the former Maritzburg United player would get game time at the Absa Premiership champions, but he has proved his doubters wrong by turning out consistently in Pitso Mosimane’s team.
Zwane, on the other hand, has been handed a more senior role on the pitch after the departures of Percy Tau and Khama Billiat and has begun to form a good understanding with Maboe, which has been evident in their combination play in the last few matches.
As the Brazilian looks ready to tackle a busy December period, Zwane revealed his belief that despite the improvements shown, a lot of work still needs to be done.
‘With regard to the combination of me and Maboe, I think we are coming alright and we are starting to understand one another and we complement each other.
‘Obviously I still need to push more. Yes, I played well, but I can’t say that everything is okay. There’s a lot that needs to be improved, each and every department needs to improve. So, I need to work hard,’ said the Bafana Bafana international.
‘It’s very important to be consistent and play every game here in the team because we have quality players. So whenever you get a chance you need to perform. If you perform obviously you book your ticket into the national team and maintain your position there.’
